Hey Hey Every/Area One! I hope that you have all enjoyed your well deserved holiday breaks! This new year brings us to a very important time for all of us. Seniors are running their final sprint to the end of their high school careers, while everyone else is working as hard to set themselves up for the years to come. I hope that this year we are able to accomplish the many goals that we have set not only as a Distrct, but as an Area! As we fundraise this year please keep in mind our monetary goal of 7,000 dollars! Also presidents please please please continue to emphasis service, as much as we are working hard to donate to E.P.N we still have to stay true to our label as a service group, so continue to seek and pursuit as many of those opportunities as you can!

PRESIDENTS WINTER RETREAT -- PWR

WHEN: Saturday - Sunday, Feb 6-7 2010

WHERE: Camp Campbell, Boulder Creek, CA

WHAT: An overnight retreat to train incoming/potential presidents. Each club is expected to send one current president and one to two incoming or potential presidents! Come enjoy a couple of days with the Presidents/Incoming presidents of the District along side alllllll of your favorite District Council Members :)

COST: $85 - Please contact your Rotarians to ask about potential sponsorships to this event!

With that quote being said, I want to talk about the progression of Area 1. Throughout the past few years, Area 1 has been overshadowed and overlooked by its wonderful big brothers and sisters (all the other Area's). This year is all about change, and although I serve as Area Director, I CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT THE HELP OF THE KRYPTONITE KOBRA's. I have faith in all of you, whether you are a president, board member, or general member, let us make this year the best year we possibly can. My goal this year is to create a solid foundation for Interact within this Area for many years to come...and I want all of you to be a part of this building process. Let us not only live within this moment, but look towards the future. Interact has given each and everyone of us a unique opportunity and outlook on our lives, and we MUST give back by passing this experience on. Always remember our motto, "Service above self", this does not only apply to our projects but also the continuous progression towards success in each and everyone of our clubs.

Along with all of this, I would LOVE to announce that we are going to be getting more help this year! After some snooping around, making a few phone calls, and shooting out tons of emails, we have THREE more ACTIVE schools. District 5170 and Area 1 lets show some Interact love to OAKLAND HIGH, OAKLAND TECH, and EMERYVILLE HIGH! <3

That puts Area 1 up to SEVEN SCHOOLS and ONE COMMUNITY BASED GROUP...so lets rally the troops and have ALL OF YOU KRYPTONITE KOBRAS TAKE A BITE OUT OF THIS YEARS INTERNATIONAL PROJECT (come to FLC to find out what that is!)

Alright there were a couple of new additions to the site...but I wanna highlight first and foremost OUR NEW BANNER...YEE! I must say, it makes this page much more fierce looking in comparison to that weird purple one we had before! Lets get em Kobra's!

Anyways, props to our webmaster, Ankit who listens to me complain about little details I want fixed about our site, keeping things updated, and just being a BAWSSS! Thanks man!

...is a great story!

Hopefully I don't sound crazy talking about this stuff...but especially in the streetwear industry, most if not all pieces of apparel have a story or significance behind them. With this shirt I wanted to mimic that ideology so that we had something that was meaningful to not only the Area, but Interact in general.

As much as this shirt is supposed to represent our spirit, we wanted to have a shirt that focused less on us as an Area and more focused on Interact as a whole. We wanted to keep it open so that anyone, regardless of the Area that they are in, could wear the shirt with pride.

The front side of the shirt obviously shows a number of different languages. Interact is short for International Action, so we wanted to have the flavor of all languages around the world to represent the work that we do around the world. It also represents the fact that regardless of who you are, where you are from, the culture you grew up in, the language you speak...we still keep in mind the Interact motto "Service above self"

The back is pretty self explanatory. We still wanted to have all the schools and organizations that are a part of Area 1 on our shirts just to acknowledge everyone that is contributing to the Area. One thing I do want to explain is our little Area 1 Logo. We are the Kryptonite Kobras, so obviously there are a number of "kryptonite green" accents on the shirt. But the logo is modeled off of another symbol we all know about..the medical staff with the snake wrapping around it. I figured, medical people help a great deal of individuals through their service and we as a club do the same. So we put our own little twist to it, changed the staff to a 1 and the snake to a cobra...and BOOM! Our little mascot! It's not a cute little animated thing, but it definitely captures what we are about.

That's about it...not much of a story, but I wanted to explain the little elements that bring this shirt together :D

Anyways, these are going to be 12 dollars, are sizes will range from small to xtra large...please get to me ASAP in order to pre order some larger sizes :D. Area 1 members should buy this shirt to wear to the Fall Leadership Conference, on your sign up sheets there should be a form for you to put down your size. Even if you are not going to be attending support our Area and buy one anyways!

Alright, sorry about that, that was my lame attempt at a cool wresting introduction for our Area. It was a little bit more funny in my head, oh well.

Anyways, Hello everyone! My name is Acen Datuin and I am your 2009/2010 Area 1 Director! I look forward to working with District Council as well as the rest of the Interact community throughout this year in order to help Area One make leaps and bounds in improvement as well as help lay down the foundation of Interact here in the Alameda/Oakland Area for years to come!

We have already made significant improvement within the Area with the addition of the newest Interact Club at Saint Joeseph Notre Dame High School. As well as addition of one of the only community based Interact Club, students from the Alameda County Independent Living Skills Program! Lets all give them a warm Interact welcome, as well as lots and lots of Interact love throughout the year! Welcome Guys :D
